Tiger Talk

This is my first posting here at my LSU football blog. The idea came to me, "Why not have a blog about one of the greatest teams in college football?" That would be the LSU Tigers, for the uninitiated and uninformed!

Since we are already a few games into the season, I had better recap. Some of these are not so fresh in my memory, so the details are not as sharp as they could be. So sue me.

LSU 22 Oregon State 21
The first game of the season, a lot of new faces. The quarterback question appears settled as Marcus Randall starts the game, but struggles to get into synch throughout the game. LSU trails most of the game, but a late game spark led by the backup QB JaMarcus Russell (and an errant extra point attempt by the OSU kicker) helps the Tigers to come back from behind.

LSU 53 Arkansas State 3
Great game for the Tigers to show off some of their talent. Blew by Arkansas State fairly easily. Anyone else really care to talk about this game.

LSU 9 Auburn 10
The Tigers showed a lot of heart in this game. The only thing that seemed to be lacking was execution in the Red Zone and a clear leader at quarterback. Marcus Randall started again at QB and showed greatness by driving down the field like General MacArthur at command. The Defense did its best to hold back the dual running attack of Auburn's Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams. Poetic justice reigns supreme as an errant extra point attempt by an LSU kicker (Gaudet) is the deciding factor in the game's outcome. Of course, an obscure penalty on LSU's Ronnie Prude during a missed extra point attempt that would have kept the game tied, did not help either.

LSU 51 Mississippi State 0
You have to feel bad for Sly Croom. The guy is taking over Sherrill's program at State and, well, he let the players do whatever the heck they wanted. I have no doubt that he will turn State into a powerhouse in a couple of years, but in the meantime... rebuilding is painful and a game against a powerful LSU Tiger team doesn't help much. LSU dominated. Alley Broussard looked great again. Justin Vincent looks to be regaining his form. Heck, even Hester looked dominant. This means the O-line was creating some big holes for these runners. Both Randall and Russell looked spectacular at QB, so I guess we better get used to musical chairs at this position. We had a little trouble with special teams: another missed extra point and a turnover on a punt return. Corey Webster and even Marcus Spears had some crucial picks. Hats off to the defense for keeping State scoreless and for now allowing a rushing touchdown this season. Tigers really got it done today.

This Saturday, the LSU Tigers travel to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Gametime is 2:30 EST on CBS.
